"The premise of this book is great, however I feel that there are a couple minor issues that need to be looked at. When considering the age bracket for this book there are some contradictions for me. I have an 8 and 10 year old and reading a story from the vantage point of a teddy bear is below their development level. The amount of great information contained in this book is beyond the attention span of a child who is 4 years old. I really believe that if you shortened the amount of information you could gear this towards 4-7 year old children but with the amount of info you will not hold the attention of the younger kids for that long.
The second issue is that use of the word "learnt" is more British American than american and had my editor hackles up. I know this is purely personal preference but "learnt" sounds lazy and slang to me. I am marking this just okay because I thing there are too many issues with target audience and illustrations to give any extra stars."

Then he is off to the Royal Palace of Madrid and a famous street in Barcelona before he continues his sightseeing tour. He learns many Spanish customs and watches a flamenco dance. Then Theodore samples Spanish food and even has a cooking lesson. There is a lot of interesting information on Spain in this well written and illustrated book. A great travel book for kids.
- I am a fan of the Theodore Adventure books. Gracias to Trent and Ashlee Harding for bringing great adventures to children This time Theodore, a cute little bear, is taking readers to Spain. Children and those who love them can read the book and learn so much. from festivals, food, history and even bull fighting this book is written with youngsters in mind. Cute, bright. fun pictures are added to some great information. Kids can learn and have fun while doing it. How great is that?
- The authors of this beautiful book tell us a lot about Spain in this colorful book. We learn about the country, the people, foods, games, customs, and even some Spanish words and much more. Children will learn much by reading this fun book.
- I got this book for my 8 year old who is in 3rd grade. Although it is really better for a younger reader she still really enjoyed reading it & seemed to remember a lot of the information as well as thinking the bear was cute & funny.
- Australian sibling authors Trent and Ashlee Harding write and illustrate exciting, educational and valuable children’s books with the desire to help youngsters with all aspects of literacy and numeracy. Both Trent and Ashlee are studying Occupational Therapy and Business at University. They live in Melbourne, Australia.
The hero of the story is Theodore the bear and in this delightful book cum travelogue we are privy to the glories of Spain as Theodore is our guide. He shares the Spanish (España) language, the capital city of Madrid, on of the largest palaces in Europe – the Palacio Real de Madrid, the famous street in Barcelona called La Rambla, the Aqueduct of Sergovia built in 50 AD, Andalusia where many people dance the colorful flamenco, the delicious Spanish cuisine such as Paella, churros, tapas, chorizo the tradition of the siesta (a nap during the day), the many beaches such as La Concha in San Sebastian, Ibiza - the popular tourist destination island, the controversial sport of bullfighting, the running of the bulls festival in Pamplona which has been held annually since the 1590’s, the Tomatina festival which is a food fight with tomatoes, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao which houses the art of Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali, some interesting facts such as Spain is the largest producer of Olive Oil, some other fascinating sights such as the Mezquita (‘Mosque’) of Cordoba which was originally a Roman temple, the sports – soccer (futbol), and so much more.
The pleasures of this book are many – and this travelogue/reference book about Spain will energize children’s (and adults’!) desire to visit this terrific country. Booking information, please….! Trent and Ashlee have created a very successful children’s learning entertainment book, and with quality such as this we can only hope they will continue creating equally absorbing lessons.
